Meet the Doctor
Dr. Tyler Whitfield, DDS, MSD
Dr. Whitfield was born and raised in Rockford, Illinois, where his family owned and operated the beloved Chen’s Restaurant for 42 years—an experience that shaped his strong connection to the local community and appreciation for service. He attended Christian Life Schools from preschool through high school before completing his undergraduate studies at Marian University in Indianapolis, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Dr. Whitfield received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 2022, while also serving in the U.S. Army National Guard for five years. He then completed a one-year General Practice Residency at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, gaining valuable experience in hospital dentistry. Dr. Whitfield pursued postgraduate studies in endodontics at Indiana University School of Dentistry, where he earned his Endodontics Certificate and Master of Science in Dentistry in 2025. His Master’s thesis focused on “The Antibacterial Effect of Electromagnetic Stimulation on In Vitro Endodontic Biofilms.” Dr. Whitfield is an adjunct faculty at Indiana University School of Dentistry Graduate Endodontics Clinic. His favorite part of being an endodontist is providing patients with a positive experience, relieving pain, and preserving natural teeth.
Dr. Whitfield and his wife, Nina, are excited to be part of the community. With a deep appreciation for building lasting relationships, they are excited to serve the region both personally and professionally. When he’s not in the office helping patients preserve their natural smiles, Dr. Whitfield values quality time with family and friends, staying active in his church, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life—whether it’s out on the golf course, hitting the gym, or spending time outdoors.
Before pursuing a career in endodontics, Dr. Whitfield lived a remarkable life traveling the world as a professional BMX athlete. His dedication, focus, and competitive spirit took him to the world stage, where he earned the title of world champion and competed in the 2016 Olympic Trials. Though his professional racing days are behind him, his passion for the sport lives on. You might still catch him riding for fun at the BMX track in Searls Park, sharing his love for the sport with the next generation.
